Not very many people are aware that packing for storage purposes is a lot different from the usual packing done when transferring things from one place to another. For one, storage accidents something that will be kept for a reasonable period of time. This would require boxes that are clean, durable, and of the correct size.
Choosing boxes that do not comply with such requirements can lead to damaged items. This then defeats the very purpose of storing the said items in a reputable self-storage facility. What use is it to be choosing the best storage unit if the boxes in which the items are placed fail to offer sufficient protection as well?
Storage boxes must be clean. If the items are important enough to be stored in a paid facility, then it serves to be stored in clean boxes. Dirty boxes usually obtained from stores may invite insect infestation which may not be checked immediately since they are in storage. It is highly possible that items may be damaged while in storage if this occurs.
Most of the used boxes that can be bought from stores are either partially damaged or contaminated with food residue. Moving companies also tend to charge a higher fee for transporting dirty boxes. Although new storage boxes cost more than used boxes, they are able to offer more protection.
Storage boxes must be durable enough to hold the items placed in it. They must also be able to provide protection to their contents. Most importantly, they must not collapse under the weight of other boxes.
It should be noted that boxes placed at the bottom are the heavy ones and those that are properly filled, but not too much as to damage the box and the contents as well. Boxes of the same sizes are easier to stack one over the other and are able to conveniently carry each other. Durable boxes can still be reused for the next storage needs.
Boxes that are of the Correct Size
Not all items for storing can be placed in regular sized boxes differentiated by small, medium, large, and extra-large sizes. Items with irregular sizes and shapes can usually find a match from storage facilities. The right size of boxes will ensure that items placed inside will remain fairly stable even in movement.
Using the correct size of box also makes it easier to arrange things in the storage facility. Large items will be in large boxes while small ones can find their way in correspondingly small boxes. This makes labeling a lot easier as well.
Boxes Sealed with the Right Packing Materials
Boxes are able to function more properly with the right packing materials. These would include bubble wrap, packing tapes, and shrink wrap. Cardboard dividers and foam pockets are ideal for packing glass items. Sealed plastic covers and canvas sheets are able to offer protection to other items such as mattresses and sofa seats.
