This project may take hours or an entire day to complete, but do not worry, an organized garage is worth the effort! You may even find it saves you time and money being organized and clutter free.
Below you find 7 tips how to get an organized garage.

Tip1. Before pulling everything out of the garage, you may want to make a trip to the store if you need any shelves, hooks (or other hanging items for bikes and tools) and / or plastic bins. You can buy metal shelves that are easy to assemble and not too expensive and plastic tubs / bins with lids that stack nicely and are easy to label.

Tip 2. If you do not have room to work, you can start by pulling out the larger items so that they are out of your way. Also keep a garbage can close by to throw out junk and / or broken items. (Good reusable items can be donated to local charities – some organizations even pick up items ie Salvation Army. Or, you may consider selling items at a sale or online.)

Tip 3. It's easiest to start by categorizing the things being stored in the garage. Separate for example, all holiday items and put in a plastic tub and mark accordingly. This makes it so much easier to find items later when you need them.

Tip 4. Other categories may include books, files / records, supplies, memorabilia, etc. Things that you do not use often can be kept protected in the large plastic bins / tubs, stacked and aligned along the back wall or side of the garage.

Tip 5. Other items that you use on a regular basis, need to be more accessible. Yard supplies and / or paint might be lined up on shelves. Tools, nails, etc. can also be organized on shelves or in cabinets. Empty coffee cans or plastic food containers are great for storing small items like nails. Anything larger can be hung in the garage on hooks and will keep the items out of the way, especially when they are big, bulky items like bicycles, rakes, etc.

Tip 6. Do not be afraid to downsize, sell and / or let go of things you do not want to store or no longer have the room to keep. If you no longer use an item, it very well could be something someone else could use.

Tip 7. Once the garage is organized and clean, keep it looking good by always putting items back where you found them and keeping things neat and orderly.

By following the tips above not only will you have a place to store your vehicle again, you will be able to know exactly what you have and enjoy the ability to find what you want, when you want. Imagine your sense of accomplishment and pride every time you walk into your clean and organized garage and know that you did it all on your own.
