Just make sure you wrap them properly with bubble wrap or plain wrapping or butcher paper to avoid damage while being transported from your home to the self storage facility. Avoid using newspaper for wrapping items as the ink can cause stains.
Other wrapping materials you can use are the shrink wrap for dressers, cabinets and appliances as well as mattress and sofa covers. Make sure not to use the sealed plastic covers for long term storage as this can cause mold and mildew buildup overtime.
When packing items in a box, keep them full to avoid shaking and shifting of your items inside particularly during transport. You can use towels or clothes to fill gaps in case the box is not that full.
