Although you can never 100% guarantee things when it comes to choosing someone to trust for whatever reason, there are certain things that you can do to make sure that the potential self storage company ticks as many boxes as possible.
Established – One of the first things that many would check is how long the company has been established for, to make sure that they have been around long enough for you to not only trust but will still be around when you need to collect your things! Even if they are relatively new, you can still ask a few leading questions to see how good they are eg how secure and modern the facilities are.
Experience – Choosing a self storage company that has the experience to take care of your possessions and work out the best way to store your things is critical, which is why going for a company with good experience give you the confidence to proceed. Ask them how long they have been trading for and how many long term customers they have, because this is often another sign of how good they are.
Opening Hours – Contrary to popular belief, not all self storage companies are open 24/7, so it is critical that you check out their opening hours before you decide who to store your possessions with. 24/7 access is not always that critical, but you do need to make sure the company will be open at least some of the hours that are going to suit your access needs.
Location – If you need regular access to your possessions, then choosing a self storage unit 2 hours from your house is not going to be very cost effective and could leave you out of pocket if you keep needing your things. On the other hand, if you are going away for a year then you can pretty much choose any self storage facility without worrying about the location, which can help to bring the cost down because you can afford to shop around.
Sizes Of Units – Not all self storage companies have enough availability or size of unit to always accommodate your needs, so make sure that you give them an accurate appraisal of how much space you need before pitching up with your possessions. The more accurate you are, the better the price will be, because you can often end up paying for more space than you actually need.
Like anything, choosing the correct company and gaining confidence in them is something that will take time, but by doing a little bit of research and asking the right questions like we mention above can often make a massive difference.
