Sheds are great ways to store stuff you can not find place for. There are many types of sheds you can build depending on the purpose you intend to use them for. These are usually called garden or tool sheds depending on what they are used for and who uses them. Generally, men will call it a tool shed and women call it the garden shed.

A tool or garden shed makes sense if you have a large yard and do not want to be walking to and from the garage to get something you need. A garden shed means more space and so the garage does not get crowded and you can actually park the car or cars in there.

If you are interested in building a garden shed then there are two options you can use. You can either build it yourself or hire a contractor to do it for you.

If you are planning on doing it yourself you can find plenty of free shed plans online that give detailed instructions. You can find plans for pump sheds, Gable sheds or garden building sheds depending on what you want to use it for. There are also simple plans of various dimensions. You can choose one of these after you have determined what you are going to be storing (lawn mower, snowmobile, and wheelbarrow). This will determine the size of the shed, the quantity of materials needed and hence the budget. You can also start by deciding on a budget first and then proceeding with the construction.

Once you have decided on the size of the shed it is time to decide on the look and materials. You can either use wood and paint it or cover it with sheets of vinyl. Rectangular and square sheds are the easiest to build when it comes to the foundations and the joints. It also makes it easy to add shelves later on. You need to assemble all the materials and tools you are going to need. You can buy the materials from a hardware store. If you do not the tools that you need you can either buy or rent them at your discretion. Tools and equipment like nail guns and spray painters will make the work easier and help get it done faster.

Before you go ahead with the construction work, check the county regulations. Some counties do not allow foundations to be dug without the proper paperwork. If you are serving a foundation consider inserting a chain in the concrete to lock the snowmobile or ATV.

You can get the family involved in this venture if you think the work is too much for you to do.

If you feel that all this is too much work then you can buy prefabricated sheds that are easy to install. But these sheds are expensive and the quality is mediocre. Also if you want things like shelves or benches then they will cost you extra.
